12°N, 61°W Grenada Film Festival Announces 2024 Lineup

The 12°N, 61°W Grenada Film Festival is thrilled to announce the official lineup of films for its sixth edition, from October 24th to 27th, 2024, at Movie Place Grenada, with additional events across the island and corresponding virtual programming. This year’s festival features a diverse selection of over 30 films, including compelling features and shorts from more than 16 countries, with universal themes of identity, cultural heritage, environmental issues, social justice, and more—deeply relevant to Grenada and the wider Caribbean.

At the heart of this year’s festival is a celebration of local and global talent, with Grenada taking center stage as the host and a vital part of the storytelling experience. This event is crafted to introduce global stories to the island and elevate Grenadian voices by showcasing our nation's talent, creativity, and culture. The films will premiere exclusively at Movie Place Grenada and will not be screened elsewhere on the island. Audiences are invited to experience this unique selection of films for a limited period, connect with international filmmakers, exchange ideas, and engage with diverse perspectives during this exceptional showcase.

Festival Events and Highlights

In addition to the film screenings, the festival will host a variety of events, bringing together filmmakers, industry professionals, and the wider community for a celebration of culture and creativity:

  • Opening Gala & Fundraising Night: Start the festival with the “Mystique” Masquerade Gala, an all-inclusive evening of fine dining, live entertainment, and the premiere of our opening night film. This event marks the start of the festival and supports our ongoing initiatives to support the development of the film industry in Grenada.

  • Special Screenings: One of the festival’s highlights is the premiere of ART & Legacy, a documentary celebrating the life and influence of Grenada’s celebrated artist, Gordon De la Mothe.

  • Panel Discussions: Join discussions on the future of Caribbean cinema and the economic benefits of film production on the island. These panels are designed to offer valuable insights for local creatives, entrepreneurs, and aspiring filmmakers.

  • Networking Sessions: Filmmakers, professionals, and enthusiasts will have the chance to connect and collaborate during dedicated networking events, further fostering Grenada’s growing reputation as a creative hub.

Festival Founder and Managing Director shared: "Our festival is a celebration of the stories that inspire our community and resonate globally. By putting the island’s creativity at the forefront, we aim to provide new opportunities for local talent and showcase what makes our culture and stories so powerful on the international stage."

The festival continues to expand its reach, engaging new audiences and deepening its connection with the community. Beyond the films and events, the festival is committed to nurturing future generations through initiatives like the Creative Immersive Series and Youth ART & TECH Fest, which allow young people to explore creativity through film and technology.

Additionally, the festival is proud to announce the upcoming Caribbean Storytellers Initiative residency, which will launch in 2025. This program will prioritize female directors and filmmakers working on projects that elevate Caribbean culture, ensuring that stories from the region are shared with the world.
