1261 Film Festival's 4th Edition "Cultural Confidence" Announces Award Winners
The 12°N, 61°W Grenada Film Festival (1261 Film Festival) wrapped the 4th edition on Sunday, October 30th, 2022 with the Closing Night public screening of Damian Marcano’s CHEE$E on the Grand Anse Beach. Today, they announce the Awards winners in four categories: Feature Fiction, Feature Documentary, Short Film, and Grenadian Film.
This year's vast cinematic catalog showcased showcased eight feature films and 21 shorts from award-winning filmmakers alongside fresh voices in filmmaking, including two first-time Grenadian Women Directors, Amanda John and Kayko Donald that featured during the Grenadian Night. The films screened at venues across Grenada, including the Deluxe Cinema in St. Andrews, the Olympic Building, and Grand Anse Beach Vendor's market in St. George.
The audience's enthusiasm and embracement of this year's programming lineup were reflected in high ratings for the films at the Festival's Q&A with our filmmakers and international actors and industry professionals. According to Nigerian Actor, Producer and Director Chioma Akpotha after viewing the short program of Grenadian films, “I can’t believe I am in Grenada, the short films are so relatable, touchy and real”.

Best Feature Fiction: Chee$e by Damian Marcano (Trinidad)
Best Feature Documentary: African Redemption, The life and legacy of Marcus Garvey by Roy T. Anderson (USA)
Best Short Fiction: Raw Materials by Sosiessia Nixon-Kelly (Jamaica)
Best Short Documentary: Patty vs. Patty by Chris Strikes (Canada)
Best Animation: Opal by Alain Bidard (Martinique)
Best Grenadian Film: My Mother Mary, by Kayko Donald (USA/Grenada)
First Time Director: Rebecca Williams dir of Out of Many (Jamaica)
