Synopsis:

When prominent Jamaican sprinter Jeffrey Jacobs is brutally murdered, rumors about the secret life he may have lived create public uproar, causing obstacles to the murder investigation and for Jeffrey’s father, who simply wants justice for his son. Filmed on location with a cast of local Jamaicans, this film is an authentic case study of a country that continues to face the consequences of its turbulent past while trying to confront the realities of sexuality and equality.

Gibrey Allen is an award-winning writer and director whose work primarily explores stories based on black and minority experiences, approaching the nuances and complexities through a natural lens. Pearl and Henry, his recent short film, was commissioned by Tribeca Studios, premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, nominated for an NAACP award, and aired on CBS and BET. His feature film Right Near the Beach has played at Locarno Film Festival, BAM, AFI, New Orleans Film Festival, and Blackstar, to name a few, garnering recognition, including jury awards. Gibrey attributes his Jamaican upbringing to his naturalistic approach to filmmaking. The compelling characters and arresting landscape shape his cinematic language. His goal is to show a multitude of portrayals- media that confronts the systemic, institutionalized problems and resulting effects but also stories that explore love, the imagination, and life's beauty.
