Meet The Makers

Director Alexander Etseyatse is a first-generation Nigerian-American filmmaker from Brooklyn, NY.   He’s an avid art enthusiast and enjoys watching stories unfold, on- and off-screen. While he enjoys good comedy, somehow, maybe even contrarily so, when it comes to writing, he tends to lean toward deeper, darker, thought-provoking material, such as character-driven psychological thrillers and crime dramas with gritty imagery and dark tones. He also deeply cares about Black Liberation, uses art to liberate our minds. He graduated from NYU’s Graduate Film program, Class of 2020, on a prestigious graduate scholarship, and a Spike Lee Fellowship.Alexander’s second-year narrative, LP, premiered at the 2019 Woodstock Film Festival, screened at HBO’ New York Latino Film Festival, PAFF, and many more. Winning the “Carl Lerner Award for Social Significance” at the NYU First Run Film Festival. It was also nominated for “Best Student Short” at the Woodstock Film Festival. LP is now a Vimeo Staff Pick, it also was picked up by Omeleto, and Nobudge.Alexander Etseyatse’s most recent full-length feature screenplay, Otis N’ the Dough Boyz, was selected for the 2nd round of Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab 2020, a quarterfinalist of ScreenCraft Drama 2020, a quarterfinalist of The Script Lab 2020, the 2nd Round of SYS’ Six-Figures Screenplay Contest 2020, the 2nd round of ScreenCraft Film Funds 2020, a semifinalist of We Screenplay Diverse Voices 2019, an official selection of Script Summit 2020, and a quarterfinalist of the Scriptapalooza Screenwriting Competition. It was also awarded the Spike Lee Production Grant and a Caucus Foundation Grant. Overall, his work has screened at over 100 film festivals worldwide. His previous short films Abidjan, Mikel’s Faith, and Four One Nine has won over 25 awards around the world (Cannes, Berlin, South Africa, and Los Angeles).
